How is money generated by the US/ in general?
I have been reading a lot in the newspaper about how a recession in America will drive global recession because the US constitutes something like 95% of the world exports. I understand that concept, this may seem like a stupid question but how does the United States have all this money to spend? How is money generated? If we are making money from other countries how is it that we owe so many countries so much money? I dont' know if this is clear, but if you can help me wrap my head around this concept, it would really help. Thanks

Money was generated from past money. This money was originally a note that promised the owner of the note a certain amount of money which was then backed by gold, which was a universal form of money. Gold got to be money because it was rare, and people could denominate things in gold - 1 oz of Gold is worth a cow, a acre of lang, a cannon ball. Banks began printing dollars because gold was very heavy and could be stolen by pirates. Bankers noted that they could issue more dollars than gold because no one wanted all their money at once, and fractional reserve money was born. The US makes money by printing, and buying things with it, like treasury bills it had lent in the past. But the US also allows it's banks to lend out 80% of the dollars they get, so most of the money is created this way. We are not exporting - they are exporting to us. They are also buying from us, but not as much, and the trade deficit is a measure of how much assets foreigners are holding. The idea is the US developed this incredible industrial and capital infrastructure that we are now selling off in order to finance our current consumption. Its like a man who looses his job, sells his house and lives on the cash. Obviously, not a long run solution for his children!

The problem with overweight Police is 1 - being fat will make it hard to catch a criminal so the Police Officer is more likely to use his gun more often than necessary and will injure more people unnecessarily. 2 - It will be much harder for a 28 year old, 6 foot tall, 100 pound overweight Police officer to overpower a 19 year old 6 foot tall skinny criminal if you don't agree go to a martial arts class and watch a fight between 2 people with - the same martial arts training - that are the same height - the same age except one is 100 pounds overweight Who would you put your money on to Win the fight. 3 - its much harder for a Police officer to chase and catch a skinny 19 year old criminal ((since a lot of the criminals and trouble makers are usually under 24 years of age. People this age are less likely to be overweight because they have a stronger metabolism)) when they are 100 pounds overweight. 4 - If you called 911 to report a criminal in your House would you prefer a group of 100 pound overweight Police Officers to respond or a group of Police Officers who are a normal healthy weight

Grossly obese, no. There should be a PT test, like in the military, and if you pass it, you're fine. There is some value in having some line-backer looking cops out there.

This kind of thing is kind of sensitive. People usually start gaining weight as they get older. Usually that police officer has been a police officer for awhile and has experience. Firing them for being overweight would be quite an insult especially after they worked for the force so long. I am against firing them. If they are really overweight perhaps they could be put behind a desk.

Than in Israel. Cars are more expensive to buy and maintain in Israel. The price of buying any new car in Israel is double the price in the USA. Because in order to buy a car you have to pay almost the full value of the car a 2nd time in Israeli States Taxes. The price of a new Camera, Computer, GPS, Cell Phone and most other electronics in Israel are so expensive that most Israeli stores only sell Electronics that are already out of style in the USA to be able to offer customers a lower (affordable) price. In Israel all your Male children and Male Grandchildren (even if they leave Israel and move to Europe or the USA (otherwise they can get arrested for avoiding Army Service if they ever come visit Israel)) must serve in the Israeli Army. USA = United States of America Also in the U.S.A. you can sleep more tranquil at night. And you don't have to dodge Kassam Missiles from Hamas.

did not have enough common sense not to squander it? LIke a 16 year old who got a Hummer for his birthday, we managed to burn up most of our oil between 1910 and 1975. With the mistake of electing Reagan, America became so obsessed with making rich people richer with tax cut welfare that we can't even fix our roads without borrowing money. It's a shame to see a country with so many resources given away to so few.
