How is money generated by the US/ in general?

How is money generated by the US/ in general?
I have been reading a lot in the newspaper about how a recession in America will drive global recession because the US constitutes something like 95% of the world exports. I understand that concept, this may seem like a stupid question but how does the United States have all this money to spend? How is money generated? If we are making money from other countries how is it that we owe so many countries so much money? I dont' know if this is clear, but if you can help me wrap my head around this concept, it would really help. Thanks

If it was clear, than we'd all be multimillionaires. If you want to understand international markets, don't study economics, study psychology.
2 :
Money was generated from past money. This money was originally a note that promised the owner of the note a certain amount of money which was then backed by gold, which was a universal form of money. Gold got to be money because it was rare, and people could denominate things in gold - 1 oz of Gold is worth a cow, a acre of lang, a cannon ball. Banks began printing dollars because gold was very heavy and could be stolen by pirates. Bankers noted that they could issue more dollars than gold because no one wanted all their money at once, and fractional reserve money was born. The US makes money by printing, and buying things with it, like treasury bills it had lent in the past. But the US also allows it's banks to lend out 80% of the dollars they get, so most of the money is created this way. We are not exporting - they are exporting to us. They are also buying from us, but not as much, and the trade deficit is a measure of how much assets foreigners are holding. The idea is the US developed this incredible industrial and capital infrastructure that we are now selling off in order to finance our current consumption. Its like a man who looses his job, sells his house and lives on the cash. Obviously, not a long run solution for his children!

Should overweight Policemen be allowed to keep their job in the U.S.A. (Unites States of America)?

Should overweight Policemen be allowed to keep their job in the U.S.A. (Unites States of America)?
The problem with overweight Police is 1 - being fat will make it hard to catch a criminal so the Police Officer is more likely to use his gun more often than necessary and will injure more people unnecessarily. 2 - It will be much harder for a 28 year old, 6 foot tall, 100 pound overweight Police officer to overpower a 19 year old 6 foot tall skinny criminal if you don't agree go to a martial arts class and watch a fight between 2 people with - the same martial arts training - that are the same height - the same age except one is 100 pounds overweight Who would you put your money on to Win the fight. 3 - its much harder for a Police officer to chase and catch a skinny 19 year old criminal ((since a lot of the criminals and trouble makers are usually under 24 years of age. People this age are less likely to be overweight because they have a stronger metabolism)) when they are 100 pounds overweight. 4 - If you called 911 to report a criminal in your House would you prefer a group of 100 pound overweight Police Officers to respond or a group of Police Officers who are a normal healthy weight

5 :
Grossly obese, no. There should be a PT test, like in the military, and if you pass it, you're fine. There is some value in having some line-backer looking cops out there.
6 :
I think there should be standards, physical standards... That is my personal opinion, but I am sure that their expense Police Union doesn't believe that.
7 :
Only if they stay 25 feet away from a donut shop

This kind of thing is kind of sensitive. People usually start gaining weight as they get older. Usually that police officer has been a police officer for awhile and has experience. Firing them for being overweight would be quite an insult especially after they worked for the force so long. I am against firing them. If they are really overweight perhaps they could be put behind a desk.
9 :
Didn't you watch Paul Blart Mall Cop look how overweight he is and yet he defeats an entire terrorist squad.

Why would anyone want to move to Israel from the USA Here in the USA its much easier to make more Money Faster?

Why would anyone want to move to Israel from the USA Here in the USA its much easier to make more Money Faster?
Than in Israel. Cars are more expensive to buy and maintain in Israel. The price of buying any new car in Israel is double the price in the USA. Because in order to buy a car you have to pay almost the full value of the car a 2nd time in Israeli States Taxes. The price of a new Camera, Computer, GPS, Cell Phone and most other electronics in Israel are so expensive that most Israeli stores only sell Electronics that are already out of style in the USA to be able to offer customers a lower (affordable) price. In Israel all your Male children and Male Grandchildren (even if they leave Israel and move to Europe or the USA (otherwise they can get arrested for avoiding Army Service if they ever come visit Israel)) must serve in the Israeli Army. USA = United States of America Also in the U.S.A. you can sleep more tranquil at night. And you don't have to dodge Kassam Missiles from Hamas.

I can’t figure it out either Sam, you forgot that you sleep more tranquil at night.

seems like all you're concerned about is money. that's not the point of life, man. get your priorities straight.
6 :
Definitely life in the US is more easy and safer than in Israel. In one word it is "incomparable" Most of the Israelis use Israel as a stop in their journey to the US. It is easier to get US nationality if you are Israeli but not if you are Russian or Yemenite And millions of Israeli passport holders quit Israel for the reasons you mentioned and settled in the US. Israel is now no more than a safe heaven for retards and criminals

Does the United States remind you of a spoiled trust fund brat who inherited someone else's treasure and?

Does the United States remind you of a spoiled trust fund brat who inherited someone else's treasure and?
did not have enough common sense not to squander it? LIke a 16 year old who got a Hummer for his birthday, we managed to burn up most of our oil between 1910 and 1975. With the mistake of electing Reagan, America became so obsessed with making rich people richer with tax cut welfare that we can't even fix our roads without borrowing money. It's a shame to see a country with so many resources given away to so few.

Why do the people that hate America the most stay here all their lives? Why don't they do elsewhere? They know this is the best country on earth.
3 :
No, what's shameful is taking from those who live by the sweat of their brow and giving to those who do not contribute to the betterment of our country.

What the fÏ…ck are you talking about?

Oh please!!!!! Now you're sounding like our f***in president Obozo! He must think there's tons of oil to spare since it took him well over 70 days to think about doing anything. ........f'ing Libs.....typical. We like a Reagan clone back!
7 :
Afraid so! The Right, and the Tea Party in particular, remind me of a spoiled five year old who screams and cries when he/she doesn't get her way. Children need to learn, even when they lose they have to play fair and try to learn so that they can improve and win next time. Spoiled children and Conservatives think they don't have to change, they just deserve to win automatically because they are spoiled brats.
8 :
no............... the richness we inherited from the blood and work of our ancestors and from their God-inspired genius in forming the best country in the world. we did not burn up most of our oil between 1910 and 1975, we still have most of our oil, a resource not allowed to be tapped by liberals.. reagan was not obsessed with making the rich richer, he was obsessed with everyone having the chance to be the most they could be, and realized that when those who hire prosper, they will make more items, hire more people, and more people will share in the sucesss. the "barrowing money" problem is mainly a function of liberals while in office, although admitedly, there was some big conservative spending as well.. it is a shame that there are those who fail to realize that if you "give" everything away, noone will work, then there will be nothing to give away... go home and cry to your mama, i'm sure she lives upstairs and is doing your laundry..

It's not nice of you to call 0bama a "spoiled trust fund brat..."

What is the biggest threat to the United States?

What is the biggest threat to the United States?
I believe the biggest threat to the US is the government. A lot of people like to think that businesses control the government because the businesses supply the government with money. Well, a lot of people supplied the mafia with money back in the 20s, but were they the ones in control? What makes this threat even more serious is the blind partisanship on display so frequently by the citizens of this country. Divide and conquer at its finest, in my opinion. For example, when Bush was president, Democrats said it was patriotic to disagree with him, even in the face of the worst terrorist attack in history. Republicans characterized any criticism of Bush, especially against the war, as unpatriotic. In this case, I have to side with the Democrats. Questioning your president and your government is always patriotic. But now that Obama is president and we are facing what he describes as an unprecedented economic crisis, the Democrats say we all need to come together and do whatever the president wants, without question. Conservatives are being called unpatriotic because they criticize Obama's policies and are accused of wanting America to fail because they don't believe in what Obama is doing. What do you think?

Well I don't think we are in danger from another country. We have the power to take over the world if we wanted to.We are a lot like the Roman Empire. The Romans were awesome....never defeated by another army, strong government, but they were destroyed from within. Corruption, too much government power, multiple other reasons. The same thing is happening to America .
4 :
I'd opt for the blind partisanship myself. For the most part those in government come and go. But party politics over the greater good of the nation can only divide. Just my take. Have a nice day.
5 :
Liberals!
6 :
I agree 100% that questioning the government is a great thing but I for one just love to remind republicans of what they were saying 4 years ago compared to now.
7 :

8 :
that's right - govt. The bigger the more dangerous it is. We all know the Dems are tax, spend, big govt & more regulations. Unfortunately, The Republicans have shown to be exactly the same.
9 :
i think it is your reliance on the middle east for oil ,
10 :
Government. Socialism and the blindness of Hussein's followers. Hussein admits it in his books and they still either don't believe it or like it.
11 :
I know of nobody that voted for Obama who would call you unpatriotic (or a traitor as many Democrats were called during the Bush years). There are always some people on both ends of the spectrum who do not believe in freedom of speech for ALL. However, there have been several key Repubican figures who have said they hope Obama's policies fail. If they fail, America fails and our economy sinks into a depression. Obama is the president...he will implement his policies. You can either get behind it or continue the lame criticism since election day. Say what you want...I have no problem with that.

Is there a true CONSERVATIVE candidate that has a REAL chance to become President of the United States?

Is there a true CONSERVATIVE candidate that has a REAL chance to become President of the United States?
Someone who will close the borders, deal harshly with illegals, be tough on foreign policy, make America safe again in the inner city... Can this happen? Or is America just doomed to vote pandering Republicans and open border, spend my tax money liberals? Saying "Ron Paul" might make you feel better and he might be great.. I don't know. However, he has no chance. I am looking for a candidate that I can get behind that really could win and make a difference. I don't know enough about Fred Thompson. It looks like he is jumping in.. is he somone to support?

To be honest, I do't think so. The true conservatives can't get middle of the road enough to attract the voters needed to make it through the primaries.
5 :
Yes, but they are in the Democratic party now. Remember the fiscal conservatism of Bill Clinton? The surpluses? The balanced budgets? Long gone and wasted by liberal spender Bush.
6 :
There are a few Draft Dr. Michael Savage or Vernon Robinson and watch the ground swell of support. Tancredo and Duncan hunter are good also. Thompson could win If he gets in and he would be great, but he might not run.
7 :
Gee, I sure hope not!! The word conservative turns me off completely I don't care what else the person stands for. Yuck! The conservatives have had many years to accomplish all of those things you name and nothing has happened. Bush has spent more money than any other president in history....and you complain about liberal spending? Where have you been?
8 :
Fred Tompson will never ever be elected, he is too mean looking. Romney won't cuz he is a mormon, (mark my words)Christians are against McCain, and no republican has a chance anyway since the republican party has lost a lot of its following.

When a president of the united states promises New jobs, and 300 Walmarts and 500 Starbucks open for buisiness
Does that count? If so, isn't that great!!! Don't you just love the new jobs created in our economy when $20-$30 per hour jobs go over seas? Isn't it great how the government then blames the housing market and lenders for giving loans to people who can't afford the loans. Isn't it great how those people now have to work 32 hour days to make the same amount of money they used to make in an 8 hour day? Isn't america great!!!!

3 :
it is still the land of opportunity. I still say to work smarter and not harder. I am a plumber, so no white collar job for me. Also, what has happened over time we have been conditioned to spend and buy through television and commercials rather than save and comprimise.
4 :
It is pretty shady that we have turned into a service economy that makes money spending our pittance on other service products. Work in a coffee shop to buy fast food that pays some OTHER guy to buy coffee. I'm a paramedic making pretty good money and i can't afford to have a family. There used to be a time where a guy on a drill press could afford a house, car, 3 kids and have some savings. I have a cat and eat a lot of peanut butter and jelly. This is growth and progress?
5 :
I agree that these days we are going totally backwards financially. I understand that there are a lot of people out there living beyond their means, but I am not. I personally am getting sick of all of this sunshine being blown up our a**es about "save money here, get rich there, think yourself rich, etc.". I make more money (hourly) right now then I ever have, but I cannot afford these constant, unfounded increases in gasoline, groceries and utilities. And the "good" news is that there seems to be no end in sight for us little people. Tell me who will HONESTLY change all of this and they have my vote!
